Event History
The CHAMPS Open is the most ancient international snowboard contest in Switzerland. Since 1992 stars from all over the world have been hosted in Leysin to compete in all snowboard disciplines; halfpipe, dual, giant slalom and boardercross.
Until 2002, the CHAMPS Open was part of the ISF snowboard world pro tour (International Snowboard Federation). Since 2003, it has been affiliated to the TTR (Ticket to Ride) tour that unites the most prestigious snowboard events in the world.
Important dates:
1992 1st edition, ISF European Championships
1996 ISF Masters World Cup
1998 ISF Masters World Cup
1999 ISF European Championships, 4 disciplines
2003 New on TTR Tour
2006 15th anniversary
After the success of the 15th anniversary edition in Leysin in February 2006, it was necessary for the CHAMPS Open to take a new direction. The first news is the change of the hosting resort.
From 2007 on, the CHAMPS Open will be organized in the resort of Crans-Montana, in Valais. Resolutely dynamic with its modern music festival Caprices, Crans-Montana takes, with the arrival of the CHAMPS Open, a leading position in the freestyle sports scene of the French part of Switzerland. A new riding set up will create the opportunity for some of the world's best to push their limits at this TTR World Snowboard Tour five(5) Star event.
The CHAMPS Open has made its reputation over the last years thanks to the quality of its infrastructures. The concept is based on an unique course of this type combining all freestyle elements: big hips, a part of the superpipe and a quarterpipe. The infrastructures will be situated in the region of the « Pas du Loup », beyond the 3 arrivals of the gondolas leading to Cry d’Er. Central point of the Crans-Montana ski resort, this site offers a splendid view on the valley and the Alps.
The CHAMPS Open will remain accessible to everyone with open qualifications that allow new competitors to join the semi-finals and to ride with the stars.
