Girls only! Central Park of Thyon saw the first competition of the first Swiss Ski and Snowboard “freestyle” tour only for girl rider’s. This 3 Star TTR event saw awesome riding by all contestants but it was Swiss girl Rina Ramholt dominated in Snowboarding.

Everyone agreed that Tina Ramholt made a perfect run: Underflip 540° on the first jump, 270° in on the Flat-Down boxe, Frontboard on the Rainbow-boxe and 50-50 on the Down-boxe, earning the Swiss girl 900 francs. Taking second place was Anaïs Cettou with a Switch Back 360° on the first jump, 270° in on the Flat-Down boxe, 50-50 Frontboard on the Rainbow-boxe and 270° in on the Down-boxe, receiving an award of 400 francs. Justine Gremaud did a 180° Back on the first jump, Gap Boardslide on the Flat-Down boxe, 270° in on the Up-Flat-Down boxe and 360° on the boxe, completing the podium and receiving 200 francs.

Day 2 of the Protest World Rookie Fest 2012 was on fire with tonnes of action at the Mottolino Swatch Snowpark and in the new Cable Park in Livingno downtown. 126 riders from the starting list all shred the slopestyle set up including 3 table top and ending in a multi rail obstacles in practice. The afternoon saw the Protest Cable session happen in the centre of Livigno awarding a €1,000 prize money to grab in a “cash for trick” contest.

The Protest World Rookie Fest is not just about competing. The program of day 2 included a workshop, “Wanna be a Snowboarder Pro” by Bob Klein from USA. Bob was one of the very first pro ever and today he is in the “snowboarding hall of fame” and works as a professional athlete manager in Octagon, world leading company in this market!

Rumour has it that Red Bull pro Jamie Nicholls has joined the Protest World Rookie Fest to shred with the riders, but in a different style.

Day 3 of the Protest World Rookie Fest 2012 saw a high level of riding at the qualifications, only the best 16 male rookies and the 8 male groms get a spot for today’s super finals while all the girls, both rookies and groms get direct access to the finals.

Swedish rising star Sven Thorgen resulted the best in the rookie category while norwegian ripper Mons Roislan dominated among the groms. As rumoured there was a very special Yeti on the slopestyle: Red Bull pro, Jamie Nicholls had the honor to be the world famous World Rookie Tour Mascotte all day long!

In the afternoon a Yoga Lesson was arranged for the participants: almost 30 riders, coach and parents enjoyed this new activity of the Protest World Rookie Fest program.

The World Rookie Fest 2012 has started! 126 riders, 17 nations standing out as the biggest event of the World Rookie Tour Ever!

The Mottolino Swatch Snowpark looked awesome thanks to the crew of shapers who spent the night and day to create the perfect set up for the crowd of rookies arriving in Livigno. The 8th edition of Protest World Rookie Fest has started with the qualification day at the Snowpark and the cable-snow contest  with a prize money of €1000 cash in the afternoon.

The opening ceremony kicked off the World Rookie Fest 2012 in style thanks to the video première of the  Red Bull movie “The Art of Flight” and “Rookie Trip to Chile”, a movie filmed in Chile with the best riders of the World Rookie Tour 2011 together with some South America Red Bull riders. The “Rookie Trip to Chile” will be available for download soon on the official rookie website so don’t forget to check it out at www.worldrookietour.com.

The Red Bull Nanshan Open saw awesome weather on the first days of training and qualifications with the Nike park looking as good as it can be. The Mellow Parks crew has been busy shaping the features to perfection for this years TTR 5Star event which marks the 10th anniversary of the Nanshan Open. Are you ready to celebrate the TTR 5 Star Red Bull Nanshan Open? It is the largest Slopestyle event in Asia, twenty-two international invited pros will compete with seven locally qualified riders on a specially designed slopestyle course in the Nike Nanshan Park. The two day competition held January 14th – 15th attracts widespread international media attention and national TV coverage! Catch some of the world’s top riders battle it out for US$50,000 prize money, global TTR ranking points and of course…fame and glory! This year sees the addition of live TV coverage for the event, a first for a Slopestyle event on Chinese television. This 3 + 4 Star TTR World Snowboard Tour event begins on the 14th January 2012 where the girls will be the queens of “freestyle” this winter in Switzerland. The event will consist of two qualifying rounds and a final: the first this Saturday, 14.01.2012 in Thyon (VS) and the second held on the Saturday 18th Febuary in Wildhaus (SG). At this occasion the five best skiers and snowboarders will receive their ticket for the participation at the final of the tour, classified 4 stars TTR, on Saturday March 24 in Leysin (VD).

The best competitors of Europe will meet on the modules of the Central Park (snow park in Thyon) trying to get the 1500 francs at stake in snowboarding and 500 francs in skiing in the first Qualifying round!

TTR’s 2 Star event, the 10th Red Bull Nanshan Open National Qualifier saw China’s top snowboarders hit the slopes in style in Beijing. This 2 Star TTR slope style event qualifier determined which locally based riders will compete in the TTR 5 Star 10th Red Bull Nanshan Open to ride alongside the international pros next weekend.

With only the best run out of three counting, riders were judged on three sections – two kicker options and a jib selection to finish. Fresh from a solid season in New Zealand, it was Andrew Wang who took first-place honors based on his highest-scoring first run of the day. Dropping in switch, a smooth cab540 on the first kicker followed by a late bs360 on the second kicker impressed the crowd, while a flawless jib section consisting of a boardslide-270 off on the raised pipe and a 50-50-fs360 off on the rail earned top points from the judges while putting an extra US$1,000 into Andrew’s pocket!

American rider Nate Jones wasn’t far behind, improving throughout the day with his highest-scoring final run of a cab720 and a tweaked out switch-bs180 japan on the kickers, while a fs180 bonk on the barrel and a switch fs5050-270off on the wallride put him in second place with $600 prize money. Parkshaper Liuli finished third in his homepark with a big fs540 and switch bs180 on the kickers, while Zhang Wei took fourth with a fs720 over the first kicker and bs180 on the second. The winner of last year’s qualifier Xiao Guo also earned his spot in next weekend’s big event with a huge fs360 and a corked bs540 on the kicker line. Andrew, Nate and Liu Li’s winnings were complimented by a limited edition Nanshan Open watch courtesy of Nixon.

With the 10th Red Bull Nanshan Open riders list now complete, riders will be spending the next week practicing hard as the international pros arrive for the January 14th and 15th 5Star 10th Red Bull Nanshan Open event.

Heavy snow arrived this morning at the 6 star TTR O’Neill Evolution in Davos, but did not stop the riders’ from locking down the Big Air and Rail event. At times, the fresh snow created speed issues, but did little to dampen the level as British rider, Billy Morgan, put down the score of the day with a double backside rodeo to Gapped Cab 270 on the kinked rail.

It’s hard to imagine how hard it is snowing but due to immense efforts by all, the first round of qualifications were completed on schedule. The night final lights were illuminated all day to try and assist with visibility for the riders’.

In a two-run, best run counts format, the top 10 riders from each heat made it through to round 2 of Men’s Qualification. Some of the runs of the day, as scored by the judges, included:

January’s 10th TTR 5 Star Red Bull Nanshan Open is here and the rider’s list has been released! Featuring snowboarders from 12 different countries, including many familiar faces as well as some exciting new ones, the Nanshan Open’s 10th incarnation is shaping up to be the most impressive to date! Twelve of the 23 invited riders have participated (and placed highly) in previous Nanshan Opens and are returning hungry for more, including 8th Red Bull Nanshan Open winner Juuso Laivisto and previous Transworld Rookie of the Year Austin Smith (3rd place at 5th Red Bull Nanshan Open).

The remaining rider spots feature some of the world’s best, including current TTR #1 in Slopestyle Roope Tonteri and Brian Fox! The snowboard contest season has started, Europe finally got some snow, and preparations are in full swing for the 13th annual Burton European Open (BEO) presented by MINI, taking place from Feb. 25th – March 3rd, 2012 at LAAX in Switzerland. To make sure all riders have plenty of time to register to compete at this world-class snowboard event, the BEO has extended the online registration process until January 14th, 2012.

To register to compete, snowboarders should head to www.opensnowboarding.com and look for the BEO page. Registration is open for juniors, men and women in the pre-qualification rounds for both halfpipe and slopestyle.

At the BEO, snowboarders who make it through pre-qualifiers and qualifiers will have the chance to take home a piece of the $125,000 prize purse, in addition to valuable points towards the TTR and Burton Global Open Series (BGOS) ranking lists. Also at the BEO, riders will compete for the second generation of the Creative Use of Space Award, presented by MINI. This season’s Creative Use of Space (CUOS) Award once again draws on the MINI philosophy of utilizing space intelligently. Prize money for the Creative Use of Space Award will go to the male and female riders who throw down the most progressive tricks in the halfpipe and slopestyle competitions at the BEO. In addition, the resort crew that builds the most creative CUOS slopestyle feature during the BGOS series will win $5,000.
