Snow Jam Banner1 660x220 CZECH RIDER MARTIN MIKYSKA WINS TTR QUIKSILVER SNOWJAM 2012

Just 18 years old, Martin Mikyska from Prague was the only one to win the battle against the bad weather at this years 3Star TTR Quiksilver Snowjam. Although Friday was sunnier, his run on Saturday was still flawless, finishing with a Frontside 900 on the kicker at the end of course. Throughout the year, Martin showed excellent form at all competitions in which he took part. He was able to use those experiences throughout the year to dominate the TTR Quiksilver Snowjam.

Martin said: “It was amazing, there were tonnes of amazing tricks, though it’s too bad the weather was less than ideal. But the atmosphere overall was great like every year at Quiksilver Snowjam. I got first prize thanks to the combination of all the features of the course. I got a really strong half pipe score, a pretty good score on the jib, and one of the best tricks on the kicker. It’s one of the most amazing feelings to win. It’s hard to find the words. Thank you.”

Young Finnish rider Ville Paumola took second place at Spindleruv Mlyn. Third place was seasoned TTR Quiksilver Snowjam rider Thomas Franz from Switzerland. Although there were bad weather conditions, 3,000 spectators came to the slopes at Svaty Petr to witness world class snowboarding.

Martin Černík said on the competition, “I’m happy that we organized another great competition this year and although the weather wasn’t ideal, a lot of spectators still attended and the riders showed their best on the course.”

Snickers Nutcase Best Trick – saving the best show for last

The evening program for the TTR Quiksilver Snojwam started with a Sunshine concert on the outdoor stage right at the bottom of the slope. After that was the spectators favorite show “Snickers Nutcase Best Trick” at the Big Air under the flood lights. This is where the riders showed the best tricks they have to offer. Jan Nečas won best trick with a frontside  360 stalefish and the winner of the technical category style was Petr Horák with a switch frontside 1080 double cork.

Nike Result 660x347 STEPHAN WIMMER WINS NIKE CHOSEN SERIES IN AUSTRIA

The shapers at the Kingspark in Hochkönig, Austria worked tirelessly to prepare the Chosen Series kicker after overnight snow threatened the 8th and penultimate stop of Nike Chosen Series. The 15m step-over style jump proved challenging to all the riders and their efforts were compounded with bad visibility from the start.

A previous winner of Best Style from the German stop, Jonel Fricke, worked the mic to keep the riders and crowd stoked whilst retail partner Blue Tomato kept spirits up with warm snacks and drinks as the 24 riders braved the snow, cold and cross winds in a bid to take the MVP and a ticket to the Nike Chosen Sessions.

Ultimately the weather ruled the comp and with Finals unable to take place riders were judged on their performance in the Qualis. Peter Walchhofer took Best Style following his inverted FS7 Tailgrab, Most Creative went to Markus Bernhard by laying out a powder run to knuckle line, but handling the tough conditions by sticking everything with style and composure was Stephan Wimmer from Innsbruck – BS5s, 7s and 9s – who claimed MVP and booked his spot at The Nike Chosen Sessions in April.

postheadericon TTR BURTON CANADIAN OPEN 2012 RESULTS

The TTR 5Star Burton Canadian Open 2012 presented by MINI is all over. Again the Canadian Open played host to some of the best riding in North America. The vibe, scene and the riding were pretty much next-level in both the Slopestyle and Halfpipe.  Check out below to see the results from both!

Slopestyle Results

Mens
1 Chas Guldemond USA $10,000
2 Justin Morgan USA $5,000
3 Brandon Reis USA $2,500

Womens
1 Jamie Anderson USA $10,000
2 Sina Candrian SUI $5,000
3 Stefi Luxton NZL $2,500

As usual, Chas Gludemond and Jamie Anderson were unstoppable at the TTR Burton Canadian Open 2012 at COP in Calgary.

The course of the Slopestyle Canadian open consisted of three rails, three jumps and the MINI Creative Use of Space feature where there was $2,500 cash prize for the finalist who landed the most creative tick on this feature. As well as winning the Slopestyle Womens, Jamie Anderson was the one to take home this cash prize, meaning she walked away with $12,500 in total.

Though the girls gave Anderson a run for her money, Jamie’s run consisted of a Cab five, Backside five, and Switch Backside five, as well as rad rail trickery and walked away with the win by about fifteen points.

For the men, Chas Guldemond took home the win, although he had a tough competition with Justin Morgan from upstate New york who give him a serious run for his money. Chas held a commanding lead through the first two runs, but Justin–who dropped before him in the second run–landed a Switch Backside nine, a Front ten, and a Double Backside Rodeo to take the lead. Chas dropped in and regained the lead, making Morgan’s victory hopes short lived. Chas’s run consisted of a Switch Back nine, a Back Ten Double Cork, and a Double Backside Rodeo, and he deserved to take the number one spot. Third place went to New Hampshire native Brandon Reis who put down a run of Sevens and Nines that wowed both the crowd and the judges.

Halfpipe Results

Women
1 Queralt Castellet ESP $10,000
2 Gretchen Bleiler USA $5,000
3 Ellery Hollingsworth USA $2,500

Men
1 Ryo Aono JPN $10,000
2 Markus Malin FIN $5,000
3 Janne Korpi FIN $2,500

Riding in the women’s there was Gretchen Bleiler, Cilka Sadar, Hannah Teter, Queralt Castellet, Ellery Hollingsworth, Sarah Conrad, and Ursina Haller battling it out under the lights. Surprisingly, Kelly Clark was absent from the final despite qualifying second in semifinals. Rumour has it she got a little jacked in practice and decided to play it safe due to the amount of events still left on her plate this winter. The cold kept the pipe from getting too rutted out, and the ladies rode insanely well. In the end though, the underdog finally had her day. Queralt Castellet not only took home first, but she also became the second woman ever to land a 1080 in competition (behind none other than Kelly Clark). Queralt killed it and earned herself $10,000, while Gretchen grabbed second and Ellery third.

In the mens field the top three spots went to Finnish riders Janne Korpi and Markus Malin who locked down third and second respectively, and the man of the night was Ryo Aono. Ryo went big and came away with the win and $10,000 in his pocket.
