The first 6Star event of the season, the Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck,turned the spotlight on Slovenian rider Marko Grilc, who has been constantly successful on the Swatch TTR Tou but never had the big breakthrough at 6Star contest. If you’re from Slovenia, what are the odds that you’ll win the TTR 6-star Air&Style event one day? Hell, they are pretty low even if you are from one of the snowboarding strongholds like the US or Finland! We caught up with Marko Grilc, who has just been crowned the new Billabong Air&Style winner, after pulling off an amazing bag of tricks, including a switch back 10 late cork. Hey Grilo, congratulations on this great success. Tell us, at what time into the contest did you realise that you might win it?
It wasn’t until the last jump that I really thought about that. Before that I had too many other things in my mind. First I was just happy that I was in the starting field. When I made the top 8 I thought ‘Wow, I will get an invitation for next year’s event!’, and even when I was in the superfinals I always focused on my next jump. So when I landed my last jump I realised ‘Cool I could win this!’ – and I did!

It is Lime’s pleasure to announce that the young and talented photographer Bara Prasilova who collaborates with “chics’ only mag LIME” was awarded as the 4th photographer of the year 2008 for her fashion photo series for LIME magazine.This Czech Grand Design award is granted for an outstanding feat in photography in the given calendar period.

This nice news came to our office only two weeks after another success of Mrs. Prasilova. Bara became an ambassador of Quiksilver Women three weeks ago and had a chance to shoot and exhibit in London.“I was awarded by Czech Grand Design as second a year before, I am fourth this year. It could look as a step backwards but the possibility of shooting and exhibiting in London gave me a feeling of my career’s progression. Working and exhibiting in London at the same time is like a dream which came true. That was a fairytale!”, said Bara Prasilova.

However, it is pretty hard to edit NO! mainstream girls’ journal in these days and I am happy that LIME, after only four issues, got the international respect as the local interest of the art scene. My big thanks go to publishers Renda Hrones and Petr Nietsch from Free magazine and of course to Bara Prasilova, who gave a lot of energy to shooting for LIME every time.

CZECH GRAND DESIGN awards are divided into eight categories, covering the entire spectrum of events in the field of design, ranging from product design to fashion design to graphic design and photography.
The gala evening for the Annual Award of the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic/ 2008 Czech Grand Design Awards took place in Stavovske divadlo (The Estates Theathre). The telerecording of the gala evening was broadcasted on the Czech TV on March 29, 2009.

TTR: “When you are organizing trip – what is your biggest focus?”

Moran: “Experience helps. It is hard because everybody is coming from different places. When I plan, it depends on places where the contests are and then how much time open spaces  there is in between. That time is used for photo shoots and then  we work it out together depending on where there is good snow and what we wanna do and what amount of work would work for us.”

TTR: “How do you deal with date clashes  of contests?”

Moran: “It is kind of a balance act and you kind need to look at the season as a whole  and what everyone needs  to accomplish during the season.  Which contests get you the best exposure, which are more fun and then you work it out ‘Ok if I do this event I get his amount of TV exposure on these channels’ and what not. With these many contests you still sick on the riding for the TTR series, these many contests you still keep riding for the Global Open Series and the you find the balance within all that and hopefully  it does not stack up too heavy. And sometimes it is not possible to do everything.”

TTR: “Does filming still fit in with the TTR events?”

Moran: “It is tough to compete filming with the guys that don’t do any contests at all. But the thing is with some of the guys like Kevin and Nicolas that they are so good they can just easily go out an film and get stuff right away. It often depends on weather, too. You can be lucky with that or be really unlucky and sit there for a month without good conditions. “

TTR: “Are you looking out for new riders for the Burton team?”

Moran: “We are always watching out for younger guys coming up. There is no one specifically who does that. I mean a lot of times we see them at contests, or we get videos but many things are done via our Reps because they are the ones who are at the local mountain all the time and they know who the local kids are. And then they send stuff  to us and recommend them. And then we take the kid on a trip somewhere to see him rider at a contest and then we see how it goes from there. “

TTR: “Is it good for young riders to compete at TTR events? At the lower star levels. “

Moran: “I think yeah – I think for kids who really wanna make it in snowboarding they need to compete. I think it is a lot harder not competing and trying to come up doing a video clip which is almost impossible. But when you compete you can work your way up. I mean, if you look at all the best snowboarders in the world they all came up competing. Then they transitioned into filming a lot.
I think the TTR gives the kids something to shoot for. So it’s like I am working my way up and if they do well the next thing is that they might be standing in the position to go up and compete against a good rider and they do well which gives them something to judge themselves against.”

Top designs will also win a Burton Goodie Bag which includes a backpack, t-shirts, videos, hats, touques (aka beanies) and posters signed by the pros. There are two deadlines left: January 31st and February 28th. During the first week of March 2008 a selected jury consisting of pro riders, board designers, artists and other experts will assess the Top 25 submissions and choose a winner based on imagination, innovation, originality and visual appeal of the designs.
