To be part of it is rad and just shows the progression of women’s snowboarding to see this size of the course that we are hitting. All the girls rode really good and I’m so happy to be part of it. “

It’s really important that we’ve been invited to the Arctic Challenge. It’s such an important event for snowboarding, run by Terje, everybody’s snowboarding hero. So it’s really really awesome to be here for the women’s event. To be invited and to do well. I’m glad that everybody rode really well and I think we showcased women’s snowboarding and proved that we deserve to be here and deserve to be part of every event.

Check ripper Sarka Pancochova, who is recovering from an injury, came to support her One Life crew members, and the other riders.

ONE LIFE CREW TRAVELS TO ARGENTINA

The girls of the One Life Crew, Chanelle Sladics, Kjersti Buaas and Sarka Pancochova are giving us a chance to follow the inspiring and cool adventures of the crew. Every other Wednesday they will be releasing a webisode on SNOWBOARDERmag.com. This weeks first edit follows the girls to Argentina. Chanelle Sladics describes the trip as follows:

“My Little Footprint, Keep-a-Breast, and Protect our Winters collaborated in supporting our One Life project in Argentina in August 2010 at the South America Snow Sessions. Inspired to support the community of Bariloche, and the earth that gives us so much, we, One Life, and friends, built a greenhouse out of recycled plastic bottles, and bamboo from the local forest. We collected bottles for 2 days, cut lots of bamboo, rode epic powder, shared yoga, and threw a concert to celebrate our eco adventures.

FACTS:
1. our greenhouse will yield 10% faster crop growth,
2. those plastic bottles will not be burnt into atmosphere, and
3. we are helping with the local produce issues…we hope to inspire you to recycle, reuse, and reduce your footprint on the earth we all share!

The Southern Hemisphere competitive freestyle snowboard season is almost coming to an end. Just one last banger weekend is on the schedule and the highest ranked snowboarders, Jamie Anderson (USA) and Sebastien Toutant (CAN), in the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour Ranking are looking to defend their spot at the star-studded NZ and OZ 3Stars, the Boost Sno Show and the Billabong BroDown!

Never has the Swatch TTR 5Star Burton NZ Open seen such a rider list for the Halfpipe Finals that will go down in Wanaka tomorrow morning. With Shaun White, Peetu Piiroinen, Jamie Anderson, Kelly Clark and Cheryl Mass no less than 5 former and current TTR World Champions will be competing in the pipe besides halfpipe legends like Danny Kass, Masion Aguirre, Scotty Lago, Antti Autti, Danny Davis and many many more. TTR’S TOP 3 BRING HEAT INTO THE WINTER DOWNUNDER

It’s been a long time coming: Next week, the Burton New Zealand Open will mark the major kick off of the 2009/2010 Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour season.Reason enough for more than half of this season’s Swatch TTR Top 10 to make the trip to Downunder and collect some crucial early season points. On board are not only TTR’s current male Top 3 riders, Peetu, Chas, and Antti but also Kelly, Lisa and Jami, TTR’s current female Top 3 riders – they all will be battling it out for the early Tour lead. Predictions: Who will become the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion? Kjersti, Kelly, …?

The Men’s Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour title just went to Finland’s Peetu Piiroinen at the US Open in Stratton last weekend. But the TTR Tour is far from over for the girls as the 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam will rock Mammoth next weekend. Jamie Anderson, the women’s Tour Leader for the longest time in competitive snowboarding’s history, injured herself badly and will unfortunately not be able to compete anymore and defend her 07/08 TTR World title this year. (Props to an amazing season to Jamie – Get better very soon!!).Jamie’s no show has serious consequences on the title race. As you can see below there are only 5 (!) more girls that are able to get more points than Jamie at the RCJ, with 2 x 1000 points available for HP and SS. Therefore the riders in contention for the title are:

As they have the highest potential score (calculating with 2000 points), it’s between Kjersti and Kelly for the title, Kjersti having better chances with a higher maximum score and better Slopestyle skills
Example: Kjersti can finish TOP5 in both formats and wins if Kelly wins the HP and 8th in SS
Other girls in the game for TOP5: Lisa Wiik, Silvia Mittermueller and Cheryl Maas (who could all potentially still win the Tour)

Why are Kjersti and Kelly the 2 title contenders having a lot less point than Jamie and Lisa? They are also not even in the TOP 5 right now. Well, with only 5 out of 7 results, they are called “sleepers”, as they have the potential to jump up into the TOP spot at the last minute after hiding in the lower areas of the ranking till the very last minute (just like Shaun White, as he most often gets his 7th TTR 6Star result at the US Open). 06/07 TTR Champion Torah Bright will not be able to close the gap anymore as she currently only holds 3 results and 7 are necessary to accumulate the full ranking score (the best 7 results are taken and devided by 7).So Kelly and Kjersti are the 2 riders with the highest ability to win the Swatch TTR title 08/09 and Kjersti has a slight advantage in slopestyle (Her average statistical finish in SS at TTR events is 6th and HP is 8th while Kelly’s is 13th in SS and 3rd in HP). Women’s USO Halfpipe predictions – Can Jamie win the TTR Trophy a 2nd time?

With 4000 more Swatch TTR ranking points on the table till the end of the season the women’s tour is far from decided. Some girls still have a shot at stopping current Tour Champion Jamie Anderson who has been leading the tour since the Southern Hemisphere and would win the first ever consecutive TTR titles in history. Kjersti Buaas, Sina Candrian and Cheryl Maas – all with excellent skill in all terrains and thus most likely to finish well in the upcoming SS and HP comps – are most likely in contention for the 08/09 Women’s TTR trophy! But current World Nr. 2 Silvia Mittermueller will try her best to stay up in the mix as well.Also invited and competing is Trycia Byrnes – GO211′s Nr. 1 on-the-spot commentator and we were wondering why her age on the startlist says 34 and on her Go211 profile 29 (EIM didn’t pay attention at the Accreditation and made her older accidentally? When does the “legends” age class start again?). Will she be able step into Nicola Thost’s footsteps who also dominated the Burton European Open in Laax’s superpipe as the oldest competitor? (Germany’s Nicola Thost won a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics. She also pushed women’s pipe-riding like Kelly and Torah in the 90ies with the first back to back 7′s in women’s snowboarding)But let’s cut the crap and look into some more serious stuff below (or check out the men’s predictions here):

06/07 Tour Champion Torah Bright has not been competing much this season due to other commitments as a professional snowboarder and will therefore not be in contention for the Championship this season. Subarus, World Champions and a brand new Snowpark

Today..the first day of snowparks halfpipe… the day before practice so i guess today was practice’s practice. I was cruzing in a fully sick Subura GT-B turbo..with fat as exhaust with Chas G and just as were are leaving the outskirts of beautiful Wanaka..we see current Swatch TTR women’s world tour champion..Jamie Anderson with her thumb out. I hit the skid, slammed it in reverse and Jamie jumps in.

We pull into the carpark which reveals a virgin pipe & an almost completed, super sick looking slopestyle course. To drop just a few names I saw…Mikkel Bang, Luke Mitrani, Sani Alibabic, Chris Soerman, Marco Grilc, Olivier Gittler, Kelly Clark, Sina from Switzerland and last years pipe champ & local fav Mitch Brown was there.. Im sure there was more…

Billabong’s new head of product design Jamie Anderson resigned

Also due to her great contest season on the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour, ending for Jamie with the win of the tour title, she has been re-signed by Billabong with a multi-year contract. On top of that she will get her own signature outerwear line to be released Fall 2009.

“We are so excited to continue our relationship with Jamie,” says Billabong Brand Director, Candy Harris. “Last season was amazing ending with her TTR win, we are looking forward to a strong season from her next year.”

And with South Lake’s pride and joy pretty much ending up of the podium or even winning every major international slopestyle comp she’s entered and now starting to step it up in the pipe (she ain’t only got handplants) there is little doubt we will be seeing her on top of the world ranking list in the seasons to come.

Still no rider has ever claimed the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour Championship twice and especially not consecutively!

Hard nut to crack as there is 06/07 Swatch TTR World Champion Torah Bright, Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark and big bunch of other top notch riders as well as some youngbloods going for that achievement in their snowboarding career…TTR are sure to keep you posted!
