The Swatch TTR 6Star Burton European Open Snowboarding Championships 2010 went down last week in Laax, Switzerland. 08/09 TTR World Snowboard Champion Peetu Piiroinen won the slopestyle with style and consistent runs, closely followed by Norwegians Mikkel Bang and Gjermund Braaten. Scandianavian podium dominance could only be stopped by Switzerland’s Iouri Podladtchikov. Tuesday the 6th, TTR Crew part 1 rolled into town as one sick unit divided by 2 because we are only part 1 of 2. Davos, Switzerland, the home of the O’Neill Evolution Slopestyle and Quarterpipe TTR event, put on sunshine and great snow conditions as riders tickled their fancy with several training sessions throughout today.
We arrived late and caught the tail end of slopestyle practice after some meet and greets we walk over to scope the course. Eye spyed my little eye some begging with AA , it was Antti Autti , so I thought I’d get back to my Aussie roots and say G Day and ask him how the f@ck is the setup going. Antti replied with a simple and polite “the slope course has good flow and is really fun to ride”I looked to the right and saw a whale of a woman who seemed to be stuck on a her sun recliner. The weather in Vermont can be crazy at times, and today we got a little taste of ice falling from the sky. But, the riders weren’t deterred and took to the slopestyle course for the men’s pre-qualifier round. The pipe was also open for practice so men and women were dropping in getting a feel for the pipe and getting some runs dialed.
Men’s Halfpipe Pre-Qualification and Qualification were held today, but my eyes were on the slopestyle course as both big dogs and little ones got a chance to check out the 2008 course.
