Event History

Each Year more than 1400 snowboarders will begin to arrive to the Annual United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) National Championships, the World’s Largest Snowboard Event, at Copper Mountain in Colorado. The athletes prepare to compete against the top amateur and pro snowboarders in the country. Since the beginning of the 2007-2008 season, the competitors have been qualifying at their local USASA Regional Series for an invitation to the grand finale of snowboarding events. Beginning in late March, 2008, festivities will be set in motion as riders will celebrate at the USASA National Championship Opening Ceremonies at the Copper Mountain Plaza in the heart of Copper Mountain with a competitor parade. Much like the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, all of the athletes will march representing each of the 35 regions of the United States and International Riders displaying their local pride. The competitions kick-off on Monday, March 31, 2008 and continue through Friday, April 4, 2008. The athletes will compete in five snowboard and skiing events including; Halfpipe, Slopestyle, Boardercross, Giant Slalom and Slalom. Riders between the ages of 5 and 70 are set to compete in 34 divisions to win more than 840 medals.

This season will mark the first time the Open Class Division is now a 3 Star TTR (Ticket To Ride) event. This is the first 3 Star TTR event in the history of snowboarding ever held in North America. Male and Female competitors will be vying for $50,000 in cash prizes in Superpipe, Slopestyle and Boardercross competitions. The Superpipe will be featured at the base of Copper Mountain with the exciting finals held under the lights. Come and see some of the best national and international riders compete for the cash and a National Championship!

The USASA National Championship is representative of 35 USASA Regional Series throughout the United States. This season the USASA organized more than 500 snowboard events hosted at more than 200 resorts nationwide. Since 1988 USASA provides quality snowboard competitions to help recreational riders advance their competition skills and provide Olympic hopefuls the opportunity to reach their dreams. The event is expected to attract more than 10,000 people to compete and watch the week of competition and daily festivities..

USASA events are made possible by dedicated volunteers and its sponsors including; Red Bull, Harley Davidson, Camp Woodward, Nike 6.0, Chaos, Dakine, Skull Candy, Himaya, K2 Snowboarding, MBS Mountainboards, Swix, Windells, Thirty Two, Transworld, Launch Snowboards, Grenade, Copper Mountain, and the Summit County Chamber of Commerce.
