Event History
The BGV Fest started in February 2002 at a time when the popularity of skiing and snowboarding in Russia was at its most intense. The magazine “Vibirai”, affiliating with the publishing group PARAMON, became the initiator and direct organizer of the event.
Any volunteer, able to use the board or skis more or less good, could participate in the 1st festival of BGV. The amateur format of sport battles did not allow collecting a rich crop of records. But there were other things – a three-day drive with short pauses for sleep, overflow emotions, and the atmosphere of a grandiose extreme-party, which fascinated the participants no less than speed thirst and sport heat. A special conception was formed at the very first BGV, which basis – a harmonious combination of sport and entertaining parts. This considerably expanded the project reach and let diversify the festival program as much as possible. The idea of holding such a conceptual festival was a success, since then BGV has become an annual event.
Since that time the quality level of the festival has increased – now big-air is being mastered by professional riders, while amateurs and guests watch spectacular competitions. The contest is held with the support of the World Federation of Snowboarding (WFS) and its Russian branch. For 6 years of the project development festival audience has increased from 1 500 to 12 000 people, the prize money has risen from $1 000 to $ 20 000, and participants geography has gone over Russia’s riders (European riders also participate in the contest of BGV). The annual improvements of the infrastructure of the festival, snow-park, sport and music line-ups strengthen its status of the best sporting and music event in Russia.
