Event History

Getting an invite to The 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge is pretty hard. Only the Swatch TTR Top 10 and a few wildcards can enter. On top of that, the winner and highest air from three qualifying events in Europe and US also gain entry to the TAC. The final access point is The 3Star Arctic Open – TAC’s own qualifying event in Norway.

Together with the local resort Varingskollen, The Oakley Arctic Challenge is making some solid investments into the new event. A new arena is being created, more machinery is brought in and lots of new shapers and organizing personnel. The ultimate prize, however, is the access to The Arctic Challenge. The winner and the highest air go straight from Arctic Open to The Arctic Challenge. The 3Star Arctic Open is open to anyone who can snowboard, but you should be able to spin a BS 5 at 5 m to be considered a serious contender.

And there for sure are opportunities for a new Cinderella story: In 2006 Henning Marthinsen went straight from winning the qualifier to winning TAC. And in 2008 young Norwegian ripper Daniel Josefsen threw the highest air in the qualifying event and turned into the crowd pleaser of the event trying to tackle the world record with breathtaking tries. 20-year old Ulrik Badertscher, who also qualified at Varingskollen almost made the finals and came 9th oveall at TAC 2008.

2009 - Here we go again! Let's see if anyone can challenge the Wikings and air his way into TAC this year...
