Event History

The Burton New Zealand Open is an established annual event within the Burton family and again has been assigned 5Stars on the Swatch TTR Tour. With 5 years already under its belt, the New Zealand Open will not only start off the Burton Global Open Series, a series of six events worldwide, but will also be the kick-off event to the 08/09 Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour. All following five events of the Global Open Series are also part of TTR Tour.

This year’s event is located at the resort Snow Park NZ and comprises of Half Pipe, Quarter Pipe and Slopestyle disciplines. All disciplines are open to every male and female rider wanting to participate. However, only the Halfpipe and Slopestyle results account for the women’s and men’s TTR rankings. Running from Tuesday 29th July through to Saturday 2nd August (Sunday the 3rd is the bad weather day), the 2008 Burton New Zealand Open yet again promises to be the pinnacle of the New Zealand winter calendar: Competition gets underway on Wednesday July 30 with the men’s and women’s halfpipe qualifiers. On Thursday July 31 the action moves to Snow Park NZ’s newly designed slopestyle course for the qualifiers followed by the Slopestyle Semi-finals and Finals on Friday August 1. Friday night will see awe-inspiring massive air in the invitational quarterpipe under floodlights with live music from top New Zealand DJ’s. Spectators can watch all the action for free from a specially created grandstand carved out of snow. All eyes will be on the Superpipe Semi-finals and Finals on Saturday August 2 when the world’s best will fight it out for the Open title and a share of the NZ$50,000 prize purse.

The action is just as exciting off-snow with the Gravis Open Sessions featuring some of the biggest names in Kiwi music every night of the Burton NZ Open, from the launch party on July 29 to the wrap celebrations on August 2.
