At the BEO, amateurs from around the globe get the chance to challenge the world's top pro riders at the “White Arena” in Laax, Switzerland, from January 9th to 16th, 2010. Celebrating the 11th annual Burton European Open Snowboarding Championships, event organizers have created a “Circus” theme to highlight the fun and daring spirit of the sport! Today’s and tomorrow’s stars will dazzle viewers with their bag of tricks and wow you with their perfomance in the slopestyle and halfpipe. The best riders of this 2nd stop of the Burton Global Open Series and 6Star TTR event will snatch a piece of the US$125.000 prize purse. With 8 days of high level competitions and 400 competitors, the BEO is the biggest snowboard event in Europe.

The Burton European Open, BEO, part of the Burton Global Open Series, is the only Open Snowboarding Event in Europe, with freestyle competitions in the formats superpipe & slopestyle. Innovative Freestyle Snowboarding is a key factor of the BEO, constantly pushing the sport to new frontiers. The BEO is mainly all about bringing the best riders in the world – including Olympic Winners, World Champs & Snowboarding Legends – together with the very grass roots, kids & juniors from 8-14. So the event addresses both sexes & all age categories. Top riders per format are invited & compete against qualified riders from the previously held open contests. More than 400 riders from all over the world, the BEO takes a full week to complete it's contest riding, at the same time giving everyone the chance to go freeriding in between. The event venue is compact and easy accessible. Both superpipe & slopestyle are constructed on Crap Sogn Gion, very close to the mountain cable car station. Of course the evenings are filled with international live concerts & kick-ass parties in the Riders Palace, meanwhile a standard at the swiss resort Laax. Finally the organiser Burton & the hosting resort Laax are knowingly the leaders in their field. High competence & devotion guarante e a top level event!

All snowboarding events are free to the public to view.

Burton is proud to announce that Swedish rock back The Sounds will be performing at the 2010 BEO. The Sounds have earned an ardent global fan base with their frenzied live performances. Formed in 1999, The Sounds released their last album "Crossing the Rubicon" in 2009 and will rock the Riders Palace on Saturday, January 16, 2010. For the Riders Welcome on Wednesday, January 13, BEO visitors can get ready for BudZillus out of Berlin, who will perform their oriental Swing Polka, a unique mix of Swing, Jazz, Punk, Polka and oriental sounds. A circus themed party is scheduled for Friday night, Jan 15, accompanied by the beats of DJ Il Clauns, a local Rhaeto-Romanic DJ group.

Burton European Open 2010 - TTR Round Up

As the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour descended on Laax for the 6Star Burton European Open we saw a tour de force from Finnish rider, Peetu Piiroinen, who managed to place first in both slopestyle and halfpipe. Norwegian wunderkind Mikkel Bang threw down an exceptional performance on the fantastic slopestyle course placing second, while Iouri Podladtchikov managed to place 3rd in the pipe which moved him up to 5th on the TTR World Snowboard Tour Rankings.
