Event History

The Burton New Zealand Open is an established annual snowboard event within the Burton family. With 6 years already under its belt, the New Zealand Open kick-starts Burton's 2010 Global Open Series.

This years event sees the NZO return to its place of origin, Cardrona Alpine Resort, and will comprise of Halfpipe and Slopestyle formats. Running from Tuesday 11th August through to Saturday 15th August (Sunday the 16th is the bad weather day), the 2009 Burton New Zealand Open yet again promises to be the pinnacle of the New Zealand winter calendar.

Event Viewing:

All events are free to the public to view. However, for certain events a lift pass may be needed for best viewing. Because of the large number of spectators that come to the Burton NZ Open, carpooling is highly encouraged. In addition, shuttles run each day from Queenstown and Wanaka to Cardrona Alpine reosrt. If you must park at Cardrona's Lodge, arrive early to secure a spot and to avoid traffic congestion.

Jamie Anderson Takes Second TTR World Snowboard Tour Title

http://www.ttrworldtour.com - Since her appearance on the TTR World Tour in 2005, Jamie Anderson, from South Lake Tahoe, California, has been turning heads with her incredibly versatile riding skills. Jamie throws down complex rail combos with her signature style and goes big over the kicker line with effortless lofty airs, making it look all too easy. Jamie has made her mark in the freestyle snowboard world with her focused and constantly progressing creative riding style and a fun-loving down to earth attitude. She has some serious accomplishments under her belt including nailing the 2007/2008 Swatch TTR World Tour Champion title as the youngest rider to take the prestigious award and winning more than a dozen 5Star and 6Star events over the years.Jamie dominated in the 2010/11 TTR tour season claiming victories on slopestyle courses all over the globe, starting off with the 5Star New Zealand Open and the 6Star O'Neill Evolution slopestyle competitions. Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour 2010/11 Season Highlights

Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Jamie Anderson (USA) were officially crowned the 2010/11 Swatch TTR World Tour Champions at the 29th annual 6Star Burton US Open today. After their amazing performances throughout this 10-month long season, they were each rewarded with the TTR Champion trophies and $50,000 USD along with the glory of both becoming multiple TTR World Tour title-holders. Peetu and Jamie are no strangers to the TTR podium. This is Jamie's second TTR World Tour title and Peetu has made history once again earning a remarkable third consecutive TTR title. The Burton US Open is the last major stop of the 2010/11 TTR World Tour season and played host to the official Swatch TTR World Tour awards ceremony at the close of the event.This season, Peetu competed on three different continents and did not discriminate when choosing what types of events to attend. Peetu does it all and does it all well. He began this season in Asia at the 6Star Shaun White Oakley Air & Style in Beijing, China where he placed fifth in the big air competition. From Asia, he moved on to Europe where he took fourth place at the 6Star O'Neill Evolution halfpipe in Davos, Switzerland. Peetu found himself back on the podium when he took down the 6Star Burton European Open halfpipe title and placed second in slopestyle. And, at the 6Star Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck, Austria, Peetu took another second place. TTR Burton New Zealand Open 2010 - Halfpipe Finals

The men dropped into the pipe in the afternoon and perfect weather conditions continued for the men's field. Iouri Padladchikov (SUI) had a little trouble on his first run but came back to take the top spot with his second drop putting down a huge crippler, double McTwist 1260, frontside 1080 tailgrab, and a Cab 720. With today's result, Podladtchikov moved into World No. 1 in the Swatch TTR Rankings sitting behind current leader, Gjermund Braaten (NOR) Japanese riders were out in full force and young 14-year old ripper, Taku Hiraoka, gave the men's field a run for their money. He threw down an excellent run to take second place. And, American rider, Louie Vito, stepped it up with his second run to take home the third spot on the podium. Today's halfpipe competition marked the debut of the new Snowboard Live Scoring system (SLS), which takes a new approach to judging halfpipe runs. Instead of looking at a rider's overall run like the Overall Impression system, the new SLS system scores each hit in a rider's run which are then combined with an overall flow score in order to provide a clear definition of how the judges arrive at a final score. TTR Is Settling The Score At Burton NZ Open

Following the successful launch of the Snowboarding Live Scoring System™ at The Oakley Arctic Challenge slopestyle last winter, major events on the Swatch TTR World Tour have agreed to work together to expand and implement the system for all halfpipe, slopestyle and big air competitions for the upcoming 2010/11 season. The Live Scoring System is planned to be introduced across all 6Star TTR events in an effort to break down barriers posed by the current Overall Impression system and to improve the presentation and understanding of competitive freestyle snowboarding as a whole.In a tight partnership between TTR, the World Snowboard Federation, the events, judges and riders, the Live Scoring System was developed as a completely new way to judge snowboarding. The current system in use, called Overall Impression, focuses on a rider's run in its entirety and provides little to no feedback to riders or spectators on how a score is generated. The new Live Scoring System is more transparent and allows everyone to clearly see how judges give points by scoring each trick individually in a rider's run. TTR Burton New Zealand Open 2010 Promo

Now in it's eighth year, the BNZO, which runs over 5 days and offers a NZ$50,000 prize purse, consists of both Slopestyle and Halfpipe. All comers can battle it through pre-qualifiers and qualifiers running Weds 11th and Thurs 12th August, for the few available spots to compete alongside the elite riders who are seeded directly to the semi-finals stage. The semi-finals and finals of Slopestyle run on Friday 13th and Halfpipe on Saturday 14th August. Official training for the event starts Tuesday 10th August. TTR NESCAFÉ CHAMPS FINALS 2010

The snow and the fog didnt get the best of the very motivated snowboarders in the finals of the NESCAFE CHAMPS 2010 in Leysin. The Frenchman, Johann Baisamy wins this edition and Patrick Burgener finishes in second place, only a point away from the top spot on the podium. Maxence Tevelle (FRA), takes 3rd place. Jan Scherrer, surprisingly strong in yesterdays qualifications, finishes a respectable 4th place.
