Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich 2011

The last Munich appearance of the heroes on the board, that means the world to so many, is still unforgotten. In winter 2007 snowboard history was written at the Olympic Stadium in Munich. In front of 30.000 stoked spectators Kevin Pearce (USA) set new athletic standards and initiated an era of progression, which found its preliminary peak in February 2010 at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. The Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich 2011 wants to tie in exactly at this moment – to be nothing less and nothing more than to be the ne plus ultra when it comes to straight jump snowboarding.

Peetu Piiroinen Is Three Time TTR World Snowboard Champion

http://www.ttrworldtour.com - Last season, Peetu Piiroinen was the first ever snowboarder to win two TTR World Tour titles and has returned again this season to take an unprecedented third consecutive TTR title, a feat no other snowboarder has come close to touching. At the age of 23, Peetu has had an amazing run in competitive snowboarding with over 25 career podiums. Peetu started competing back in 1997 at the ripe age of 9-years old and has been steadily progressing his riding since. He made his first big break onto the scene back in 2006 when he took his first major win at the Burton European Open, where he won the slopestyle title. From there, he has expanded his skills into the halfpipe, quarterpipe and big air jumps winning competitions around the world. The key to Peetu's success on the TTR World Tour has been his ability to master all disciplines in freestyle snowboarding. This season, Peetu competed on three different continents and did not discriminate when choosing what types of events to attend. Peetu does it all and does it all well. He began this season in Asia at the 6Star Shaun White Oakley Air & Style in Beijing, China where he placed fifth in the big air competition. From Asia, he moved on to Europe where he took fourth place at the 6Star O'Neill Evolution halfpipe in Davos, Switzerland. Peetu found himself back on the podium when he took down the 6Star Burton European Open halfpipe title and placed second in slopestyle. And, at the 6Star Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck, Austria, Peetu took another second place. Just one week later, he won the Nike 6.0 Air & Style in Munich, which was the result that ended up clinching his TTR World Tour title for the 2010/11 season.1st - Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich Germany, Big Air 1st - Burton European Open, Halfpipe2nd - Billabong Air & Style Austria, Big Air 2nd - Burton European Open, Slopestyle4th - O'Neill Evolution, Halfpipe5th - Shaun White Air & Style Beijing, Big Air11th - Burton US Open, Slopestyle21st - O'Neill Evolution, Slopestyle

TTR Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich 2011 - Wrap Up

The 6Star Nike 6.0 Air & Style went off tonight in Munich, Germany where Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) threw down a Cab 1260 on the big air jump and a frontblunt 270 out on the rail section in the super finals to take home the win. With his victory tonight, Peetu took home an abundance of prizes including a large share of the € 75,000 prize purse, the coveted "Air & Style Ring of Glory" and 1000 Swatch TTR World Ranking points. Peetu remains in the TTR World No. 1 position and strengthened his tour lead after earning some major TTR points here in Munich. It was an exciting night in Munich with over 16,500 spectators in attendance at the Olympic Stadium where 16 of the worlds top snowboarders dropped into the massive big air gap jump, followed by a staircase that featured four different rail options. The Air & Style events are famous for the unique head-to-head tournament style format where the rider field is cut in half each round until there are only four remaining riders who battle it out for the win. It came down to Peetu Piiroinen, Seppe Smits (BEL), Halldor Helgason (ICL) and Nils Arvidsson(SWE) in the super final who all threw down some impressive tricks. In the end, Peetu prevailed with his Cab 1260 and was very happy about his win saying, "This Air & Style was so good to me. I did all three Air & Styles this year and got fifth in Beijing and second in Innsbruck, now first here, so I got better step by step. It feels amazing. And, when I think about the TTR ranking I for sure want to finish in the top three." Second place finisher, Seppe Smits, was super consistent all night stomping just about every single trick he attempted. His best scoring trick was his own variation of the Cab 1260 combined with a frontside noseslide to pretzel out in the final round. His second place here in Munich moved him into TTR World No. 2. And, coming in third place was Halldor, who was pushing his limits to take the last spot on the podium.
