Event History

Billabong is celebrating its 10th year and going bigger than ever at Snowpark in NZ! The ol’ Bro Down is now the Billabong Slope-style and it’s happening from Thursday 4th August up on the hill at Snowpark in Wanaka.

We’ve upped the TTR rating, we’ve upped the prize money (US$30k total), we’ve upped the prizes and we’re cramming a dozen or so hits into the Slope-style course, just to make things really interesting.

Antti Autti, Robbie Walker, Clint Allan, 2010 Open Men’s winner, local Jake Koia, Sebastien Toutant, Zach Stone & current TTR World Women’s Champion Jamie Anderson are among those who have already confirmed their attendance.

There are Open Mens, Open Womens and Juniors divisions.

Parties? Yes.

There’s a launch party on Thursday 4th, at Revolver Bar in Queenstown.

Our mates from across the ditch in Sydney, Australia, Van She Live, will be playing. We love these guys. Van She Live are a four-piece who bridge the musical gap between boldly adventurous shoe-gaze and danceable glint disco. Tickets are $10 NZ smackers at the door.

And of course, there’s gunna be a preso and after-party for competitors and their guests at the Woolshed at Snowpark. We’ll have DJ’s dropping some beats and live music to boot. So if you’re on the hill, there's only one place to be!

Anyone who is looking to get up to Snowpark from Wanaka, we’ll have some free buses running on both competition days. Leaving Good Sports in Wanaka at 8am and 10am, returning from Snowpark at 5pm on Friday 5th. Same deal for Saturday 6th with more buses leaving after the Woolshed party at 11pm and 12am.

Please note:

August 4th is a practice day!

August 5th-6th Slope-style comp days

August 7th (additional weather day, if needed)

TTR Billabong Slope-Style 2011 - Finals

Finnish snowboarder Roope Tonteri (FIN), 19, has defeated a field of more than 50 international riders to claim the Open Men's division of the Billabong Slopestyle 4Star TTR World Snowboard Tour event which wrapped up at Snow Park near Lake Wanaka, New Zealand yesterday.

The reigning European Open Champion dominated Qualifying on Friday and then did everything necessary on his first finals run to ensure the top-spot on the podium ahead of the USA's Sam Hulbert (USA), 2nd, and fellow Fin, Antti Autti (FIN), 3rd.

Tonteri's winning run included a frontside boardslide to front 360 tail tap, a back 900, a cab 900 and a backside 540 over the final feature dubbed the 'Monster Volcano'; a channel-gap nipple jump over a giant inflatable Monster Energy can.

The judge's score of 89.40 (out of 100) saw Tonteri walk away with 500 valuable TTR World Tour ranking points, $5,000 in prize money and a swag of prizes that included a state-of-the-art Nex5 Sony Camera.

Third placed Antti Autti (FIN), may only be 26, but joked about being the oldest guy in the finals. Autti decided to enter at the last moment, and found himself on the podium. Autti's best run consisted of a cab 900 nose grab, to frontside 1080 tail grab to frontside 720 over the Monster Volcano; with the 1080 being the first he'd pulled successfully in competition.
Two-time TTR World Champion Jamie Anderson left nothing to chance in the Open Women's, bagging yet another first place Slopestyle finish. Twenty year-old Anderson is recognized as being at the forefront of women's slopestyle progression.

Isabel Derungs (SUI) finished 2nd with Jordie Karlinski (USA) in 3rd.

Queralt has been proving herself as a force to be reckoned with in the halfpipe and now she has landed the first TTR slopestyle podium of her career.

TTR Billabong Bro Down 2010 - Finals

As luck would have it amidst changeable Spring conditions the Billabong Bro Down and Von Zipper Rail Shred went off at Snow Park NZ this weekend. A field of around 50 riders showed up to compete in the events on Friday and Saturday. After Big Air practise on Friday everyone converged in the Woolshed at Snow Park to watch the Von Zipper Rail Shred take place on the infamous Stair Set. The shredders attacked to handrail and ledges from the get-go stomping some tech tricks hoping to claim the Airfares on offer from Pacific Blue and the cash for best trick. Nick Poohachoff ( USA) was throwing every trick in the book at it from the very start and went on to claim best trick and overall in the Open Men's division. In the Women's it was Christy Prior (NZ) who put it on the line to claim overall and Stefi Luxton (NZ) walked away with best trick. Jay Walsh took out the Junior Men's division in both best trick and overall. On Saturday as the riders rolled into the Park the jump was looking perfect, a solid 20m table awaited groomed and ready for action. Wind and weather threatened in the morning but against all odds the conditions stayed calm and the cloud layer opened up allowing the riders to perform at their best. The qualifying round was a flurry of 9's and 10's, even some double back Rodeo's were getting put down in the the Open Men's with 3's, 5's and backside rodeo's being landed in the Women's. The top six Men and top three Women advanced to the final in which they were given 3 judged runs with their best counting towards the final score. In the end it was Local rider Jake Koia (NZ) who took the top spot on the podium with a huge, flawless frontside 1080 melon, following him was Seppe Smits (BEL) with a buttery Cab 9 and rounding out the top 3 in the Open Men's was Dave Schmidt Rodriguez who was throwing sick front 9's and 10s off the toes. In the Women's it was standout rider Klaudia Medlova who took first spot with her huge smooth backside rodeo, Rebecca Torr (NZ) came in at 2nd with a stylish back 3 ...For full event results, news, videos and updates keep your eyes glued to the http://www.ttrworldtour.com website.
