Event History

The Quiksilver Spring Battle is going down in the Absolut Park Flachauwinkl for the 10th time in a row. So it is just the right time to upgrade the event to the 5 star level. The contest is known for its perfect shaped and super innovative set ups, the good weather and the Spring riding conditions. The Absolut Park is one of Europe’s biggest and best known parks. The highly motivated and skilled shape crew led by Christoph Walchhofer and Hans Weiss is pushing limits every year and guarantees amazing obstacles year by year.

Last year the video judging show was introduced as world premier in snowboarding. Riders, medias and spectators were super stoked on the show presented by Jon Weaver and Henry Jackson. For 2012 the whole event crew is super motivated for making the 10th Spring Battle an even greater highlight.

The first Spring Battle was taking place in 2003 and was won by Ästhtetiker rider Andreas „Mone“ Monsberger. 2004 Burton’s Slovenian super star Marco Grilc was the man followed by the Austrian rider legend Steve Gruber in 2005. Sweden’s Martin Sandberg won in 2006, the finish contest killer Ville Uotila in 2007, the German pirate Lars Österle in 2008, Finland’s Jakko Ruha in 2009, swedish young gun Kevin Backström in 2010 and the belgium super star Seppe Smits in 2011. Phips Gruber was the first Austrian to stomp a double cork in a competition in 2009. The Quiksilver Spring Battle 2011 was the first major TTR title for Seppe Smits and since 2011 Quiksilver is head sponsor of the event.

TTR Seppe Smits Winning Quiksilver Spring Battle 2011

The 8th edition of the 4Star Quiksilver Spring Battle in Flachauwinkl, Austria saw the Belgian rider, Seppe Smits, take home the slopestyle victory on Friday, April 1st, 2011. Both the park setup and the riding were impressive at this springtime event with some of Europe's best snowboarders competing for the $20,000 USD prize purse and up to 500 Swatch TTR World Ranking points.

With a brand new video judging system and in time for spring, the European snowboard elite meets again to throw down during the Quiksilver Spring Battle.Having grown constantly since 2003, the Spring Battle in the Absolut Park in Flachauwinkl seems to be the best place for some guaranteed Snowboard Action. Heavyweights such as Marko Grilc, Werner Stock, Seppe Smits and Kevin Backström are some of the riders who will attend the Battle, and this year the elite will compete against the Young Guns."I have been to the Spring Battle five times already, and each time it was a blast. The rider friendly format, the chalets and spring atmosphere are what keeps me coming back. But what stokes me the most is the great setup", said Werni Stock, one of the top riders in the line-up.For the first time this year the winner is determined by video-judging. The best one of three runs in the super finals counts and the run will be evaluated on screen in the evening. Another highlight is the mini ramp in the Chillhouse where the skate scene will battle it out in the Cash for Tricks Session. "As the park sponsor we have been impressed by the great atmosphere at the contest in recent years and we are looking forward to launching a new era at the Absolut Park", said Quiksilver Marketing Manager Armin Weber. Absolut Park Manager Seppi Harml was also enthusiastic: "As the Manager of the Absolut Park, we are excited about the upgrade of the spring battle. Through the support of our partners, particularly Quiksilver and Snowboarder MBM, we can realize many new ideas. In particular, the video judging and the Skate Contest are two new features, which flash me."The after party will be rocked by the smashing punk sound from Cashless, and an outstanding DJ set from Teddy O (Tony Hawk Show, Air & Style Innsbruck).
