Event History

The Burton European Open goes into his 8th edition in 2007! The past 7 events were organized by Burton in 4 different locations, but since 2005 the BEO found his home in Laax. The first event happened in resorts around Innsbruck in 1999. After a year’s break the BEO moved to Fieberbrunn in 2001 to join the legendary “Lords of the Boards” event. For 2002 the BEO got revamped and found a base for 3 years in Livigno. Since 2005 the Swiss freestyle resort Laax is the official home of the BEO.

2006 was really interesting for the BEO as it was the last important competition just before the Olympics & Finnish riders were dominating the Men’s events. The BEO is well-known for it’s tradition of creating themes and implementing them all through from the contest-setup to the side events to the general look of the event. The theme for this season’s event is “Mexico”! Be prepared for a very Mexican inspired week!

The BEO is the only Open Snowboarding Event in Europe, with freestyle competitions in the formats halfpipe & slopestyle. Innovative Freestyle Snowboarding is a key factor of the BEO, constantly pushing the sport to new frontiers. The BEO is mainly all about bringing the best riders in the world – including Olympic Winners, World Champs & Snowboarding Legends – together with the very grass roots, kids & juniors from 8-16. So the event addresses both sexes & all age categories. Top riders per format are invited & compete against the best riders from the previously held open qualification runs. With about 450 riders from all over the world, the BEO takes a full week to complete it's contest riding, at the same time giving everyone the chance to go freeriding in between. The event venue is compact and easy accessible at Crap Sogn Gion. The evenings are filled with international live concerts & kick-ass parties in the Riders Palace, meanwhile a standard at Laax.

Finally the organiser Burton & the hosting resort Laax are knowingly the leaders in their field. High competence & devotion guarantee a top level event!
