Kelly Clark

What is your favourite place to ride and why?
I live in Mammoth Lakes California now, and I like to ride there because they get lots of snow and lots of sunny days too.

What age did you start snowboarding?
I started snowboarding when I was seven years old.

What snowboarders do you most look up to?
Growing up I looked up to Anne Molin and Nicola- they have influenced my riding more than most other people.

What do you focus on most - slopestyle? Pipe? Big Air? and why?
I ride pipe mostly. I like it because each hit is dependent on the former one, you need to have everything perfect in a pipe run for it to be good. And I like that there are lots of combinations of tricks/runs to get creative with.

What is your most memorable snowboarding experience?
I think winning the Olympics when I was 18 in my home country was the most memorable snowboarding experience.

Your on the road a lot throughout the season - what is your favourite place to visit and why?
I travel most of the year, I have two favorite places, New Zealand and Japan. Beautiful and very different from home.

What does a normal day consist of for you when your not snowboarding?
I like to hang with my friends, be outside and do fun things. Pretty much the same thing that I do when I am snowboarding.

How has TTR affected your snowboarding career?
TTR has been great for snowboarding. I like the idea of a tour to follow through out the year.

Best Of TTR Halfpipe Tour Champions 11/12 - Iouri Podladtchikov and Kelly Clark

The 2011/2012 TTR World Tour came to a close at the 6Star Burton US Open with men's and women's halfpipe finals. After a gripping season full of countless highlights, Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) and Kelly Clark (USA) clinched the TTR Halfpipe World Tour Champion titles. Kelly Clark took a podium spot once again to receive the TTR World Tour Champion trophy for her clear domination in the halfpipe over the course of the season. Although Kelly didn't manage to come in first in her home state after being undefeated in 16 consecutive contests, she undeniably sets the standard for women's halfpipe snowboarding. It was Elena Hight (USA), finishing the season in World No. 4 in the TTR Halfpipe Rankings, who broke Kelly's string of wins with less than a one point difference today. Kelly had this to say about her second TTR title win, "I'm super happy to have won this, it has been a competition at every event and the other girls have really pushed me to level where I am right now."Iouri Podladtchikov also had an amazing season standing atop podiums at every TTR competition he entered. Reaching back to the Burton New Zealand Open where Iouri took third place, he continued his season of success with a first place finish at the World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo, Norway and won again at the Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland. He capped off his season nicely with the coveted win here at the US Open.

In an exciting men's final, Swiss Iouri Podladtchikov took the win with his second run with a 88.90 score, followed by Danny Davis (USA) and Japanese Ryo Aono.On yet another sunny day in Laax, it was ladies first this morning, with Kelly Clark dominating the first run. With Gretchen Bleiler on her heels, Kelly improved her result in the second run, throwing a beautiful Frontside 900 Frontside grab to Backside 540, going into a massive Frontside 1080 and a Cab 720 Mute to finish it of.Gretchen wasn't able to improve her first result, but managed to hold on to her second place regardless. Yuki Furihata also performed best in her second run and with her 72.63 score she landed the last podium spot. Kelly Clark, commented happy as ever on her win: 'It was great riding in sunny weather, it lifts the spirits, and the level of riding. All the girls were pushing it and it still remains a challenge even after so many consecutive wins!'With more and more people surrounding an already packed pipe, it was time for the men to drop in after a short shaping break. Tension started to rise, as the men all seemed very eager to beat each run prior to their own. It still was Iouri Podtladchikov taking the lead the first chance he had, dropping in second to last in the first round. With two exactly identical scores of 88.90 in the first and second run, his winning run was his first, failing to improve. His second run started of with a Frontside 540 Indy Grab to Backside 1260 Double Cork Mute Grab - Backside Air and Alley Oop Andrechtplant. His second run was equally impressive and again showed a lot of style: Frontside 900 Tail Grab to Backside 900 Mute Grab followed by a Frontside Double Cork 1080 Frontside Grab to Cab Double Cork 1080 Mute Grab. Iouri had a big smile on his face all day and said: 'It was so sunny today and you can just boost. There is a sick crew out here, pipe held up, sick crowd and its home turf for me so I can't even talk right now, its incredible!!'The prizegiving ceremony today concluded a great week of riding, starting of with the youngest talents at large in the Junior's competitions Slopestyle and Halfpipe, where Stian Kleivdal (NOR), Kyle Mack (USA), Miyabi Onitsuka (JAP) and Zoe Kalapos (USA) were the stars. The first 5Star halfpipe competition of the 2011/12 TTR World Tour season is in the bag and Japanese rider, Ryo Aono, and American, Kelly Clark, took home the victories at the 2011 Burton New Zealand Open. It was another perfect day at Cardrona Alpine Resort and the level of riding was set high from the start by the talented field of international riders.  Ryo and Kelly both took home $7,000 NZD for their wins and earned 850 TTR ranking points that will count towards both the Halfpipe World Tour Ranking and the Overall World Tour Ranking lists.         The halfpipe finals ran the same format as slopestyle finals using a best-of-three-run format with men and women alternating runs.  Kelly Clark sketched on her first run leaving the door open for the other women including Queralt Castellet (ESP), Hannah Teter (USA) and Gretchen Bleiler (USA) who all have impressive tricks in their repertoire.  But, Kelly was able to nail her second run that held up to take the win, which was made up of a frontside 720, Cab 720, backside 540 and finished with a frontside 900.  Hannah Teter stomped a smooth run to take second place and Queralt Castellet was going big all day and ended up in third place. The men's leader board shifted with each run and the Japanese contingent was on fire putting down some impressive tricks.  In the end, it was Ryo Aono (JPN) who landed a near-flawless run consisting of a frontside 1080, Cab 1080, frontside 900, backside 900 and ended with a frontside double cork 1080.  Louie Vito (USA) was looking good all day taking second place and Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) ended up in third.
