Dimi de Jong
Dimi started snowboarding just four years ago. He got the hang of riding a board really fast and started competing shortly after. The Dutch Snowboard Association witnessed his talent and invited him to be a part of the national rookie team where he got the opportunity to travel more within the alps, ride way more pipe and launch off bigger kickers.
Dimi has improved a lot with his technical riding, starting to ride bigger kickers, landing all nines in training - frontside, backside, switch front and back. He's getting more and more air in the pipe and spinning longer and faster. Dimi also just started attending a special high school where students can combine their sports with learning. For Dimi, that means way more time to train and compete in the alps.
In 2006, Dimi came first in the Halfpipe at the TWO(2)STAR Snow Angel by SL event in Italy. This was simply a foreshadowing of his bright future. The 06/07 season was remarkable for the young O'Neill Dutch rider. At just 13 years old, Dimi finished 59th on the TTR World Snowboard Tour, competing in many of the major and most prestigious competitions in the world. His 15th place and massive air for his size at the SIX(6)STAR O’Neill Evolution Quarterpipe session in 2007, earned him a special invitation from Terje Haakonsen to the invite-only SIX(6)STAR Arctic Challenge in Norway. He also came 3rd in the Halfpipe in the rookie session at the SIX(6)STAR Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland.
The 07/08 season can expect big things from the rookie rider, who is more than confident enough to ride in the biggest Tour competitions alongside the world’s best riders. Recently, Dimi competed in Davos, Switzerland at the SIX(6)STAR O'Neill Evolution in both Halfpipe and Quarterpipe, finshing 62nd and 55th respectively. He's got a lot of work ahead of him, but if his recent accomplishments are any sign of what’s to come, Dimi is going to be huge.
