Kimmy Fasani
Kimmy Fasani is a rider on her way to the top. Since moving to DC from Burton she has strung together a series of macking video parts and also got some sweet contest results to boot. Fasani has been shredding it up since she was 15 and learned her skills at Lake Tahoe before making the move to the American snowboarding Mecca of Mammoth Lakes, California.
In the past year Kimmy has really stepped up her game and broken away from the pack. She pushed the level of women’s riding in the Snowboarder Magazine Superpark sessions and was nominated in the Transworld Snowboarding Riders Poll for Women’s Rookie of the Year. On the TTR circuit she has posted some solid results in the southern hemisphere; placing in the top 10 at both the Halfpipe and Slopestyle components of the 5Star Burton Australian Open. Fasani is definitely a face to watch as the she hits up TTR contests around the world, annihilating parks with style and precision.
Interview
You have been around for a while but in the past 2 years you have gotten a lot more coverage, both in filming and in contests, what did you change?
I changed sponsors. I began snowboarding for myself. I started making short and long term goals and this really focused me on what I wanted.
What would you say motivates you to ride?
The DC team definitely motivates me to ride because they are always having fun and pushing each other to progress their riding. Being around people that are positive and excited to make progression happen in snowboarding also motivates me to be a better rider.
You attended some events Downunder and also the Roxy Chicken Jam. What is your plan for the season? What other contests are you planning on doing?
I am planning to do a handful of contests, and working on my consistency. I will also be working on a movie with the DC team throughout the season.
You are a rider at the forefront of Women’s progression. How much further do you think women’s riding can go?
Women's riding can go as far as our minds can see. It's just all about commitment, confidence, and positive thinking. With those three things we can accomplish anything we put our minds to.
How do you feel TTR fosters the progression of snowboarding? What are you favourite aspects of TTR Contests?
TTR fosters the progression of snowboarding because at each contest riders are striving to earn the top place not just for the podium but also for the overall crown. Because of this, riders are upping the ante on tricks and pushing themselves to new limits in order to secure that top spot. TTR is a good way to keep tabs on how successful a rider’s season is because each contest is given a point value, the higher the results, the higher the athlete moves on the leader board. Being able to see this after each contest gives the athletes an idea of what they have to do in order to become the leader.
You’ve got the skills for sure. Any Chance you might be shooting for the title this season (or next season)?
The TTR title is definitely a goal of mine but I am not putting pressure on myself to secure it in the next two seasons. For now I am just focusing on becoming more consistent at contests and hopefully this focus will get me to that goal eventually.
