Shaun White
Shaun White is the international star who launched snowboarding into the mainstream spotlight and becoming a media icon of the sport. Shaun has been involved with snowboarding since he was just a kid, soaring above everyone’s heads at an early age and building a reputation to charge forward, progress and still have fun.
Shaun was originally inspired to snowboard by his older brother Jesse, who’s footsteps he followed closely. He was picked up by Burton at the early age of seven, and has since progressed into an athletic machine earning high respect from his peers and the media alike.
His success is undeniable, and it’s impossible to remain oblivious to the chain of wins he has collected, from numerous Gold Medals at the X- Games in both Halfpipe and Slopestyle, Gold at the 2006 Olympics in Halfpipe as well as the TTR World Snowboard Tour Championship Title at the end of the 06/07 season.
Shaun has earned himself a strong collection of TTR Titles across all Swatch TTR contest formats. Whether it be Slopestyle, Quartpipe, Big Air or Halfpipe, Shaun has got titles for all of them and he just keeps getting better and better. Pretty impressive for a guy who skates professionally in summer and is only on snow six months of the year. In 06/07 Shaun proved his dominance on the Swatch TTR World Tour, taking home many podiums and accolades. His wins were numerous and included the Honda Session at Vail (2006) SS, Nissan X-Trail Nippon Open (2007) HP, World Superpipe Championships (2007) HP, Burton US Open of Snowboarding (2006) SS, Burton US Open of Snowboarding (2006) HP, Nissan X-Trail Jam (2006) QP.
In the 07/08 TTR season, Shaun either won or at least made the podium in the majority of events he entered. He destroyed the competition at the Burton European Open claiming another first with the 6-Star BEO Slopestyle 08. Shaun’s reign in the Halfpipe was however challenged by Burton teammate Kevin Pearce. Pearce edged out White in the very last run causing White to settle for second. This only fueled White to come back stronger, claiming another first at the 5-Star World Superpipe Championships 08.
And he didn't stop there. He proved he was the freestyle king at the 26th Annual 6Star Burton US Open where he destroyed both the Slopestyle and the Halfpipe, soaring higher, further, faster and more stylish than every competitor, bagging two more Titles and reminding everyone once again of his relentless hold on freestyle snowboarding competition. His final TTR stop was the 4Star Snickers Classic in Saas-Fee Switzerland. Amidst a relaxed atmosphere Shaun laid down his signature and solid 9s and 10s to take the final 4Star Title of the season and climb higher in the TTR rankings.
In season 08/09 Shaun traveled to the land of the rising sun, Japan, where he put on a show for the stoked Japanese Fans and took out the 6Star Nissan X-Trail Jam Big Air. It was a strong start to the season and he further capitalized by placing 3rd in the Slopestyle and 2nd in the Halfpipe at the 6Star Burton European Open 2009. In what was an spectacular showdown, Shaun came up against his 2008 rival, Kevin Pearce with Pearce edging him out in the final run.
Having finished last season in seventh, the former 06/07 TTR World Champion is back for the 2009/2010 season, Shaun has come bursting out of the gates, silencing all nay-sayers and elevating his abilities to unprecedented levels. History was made at the 2009 Burton New Zealand Open when Shaun blew out the windows of progression laying down back-to-back double corks in the Halfpipe finals and cementing himself as the benchmark rider of the 09/10 season. As always, keep your eyes glued to Shaun. You’ll never know what to expect.
